Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about surplus funds, our process, and how we get paid.

Is this a scam?

It's smart to ask. Surplus funds are real money that courts and government agencies hold when a foreclosure or tax sale brings in more than what was owed. ProFund Liberty Group LLC is a registered [STATE OF FORMATION] limited liability company. We will never ask you to pay anything upfront, and we will never pressure you to sign.

Before you sign anything, you can verify the funds yourself by contacting the county or court handling the case. We encourage that, and we'll tell you where to look.

Why didn't the county send me this money?

In most places, surplus funds are not paid out automatically. The former owner (or their heirs) usually has to file a claim, provide proof of identity and ownership, and sometimes appear before a judge. Notices are often mailed to the property address, which the owner may have already left, so many people never learn the money exists. If nobody claims it within the deadline, the funds may be kept by the government.

Why do I need to sign an agreement?

The agreement puts everything in writing: what we will do, what our fee is, and that you owe nothing unless funds are recovered. It also gives us permission to request records and work on your claim. You will have time to read it, ask questions, and have anyone you trust review it before signing.

How do you get paid?

We work on a contingency fee. That means we are paid a percentage of the funds actually recovered, and only after they are released. There are no upfront fees, no hourly charges, and no out-of-pocket costs to you. The exact percentage is written in your agreement, and some states limit how much a recovery company may charge.

How long does it take?

Every case is different. Some claims are resolved in a few weeks; others take several months, depending on the county or court, whether there are other claimants, and whether a hearing is required. We'll give you a realistic estimate once we review your case and keep you updated along the way.

What if no funds are recovered?

Then you owe us nothing. Because we only get paid from funds that are actually recovered, you take on no financial risk by working with us.

Do I need my own lawyer?

You are not required to hire your own lawyer to work with us, but you are always free to. ProFund Liberty Group LLC is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. When a claim requires legal representation, such as a court hearing or a complicated estate, we may work with a licensed local attorney. If you have legal questions about your situation, we encourage you to speak with an attorney of your choice.
